Michael and Chris were tasked with breathing new life into the series, starting with creating an entirely different tale about Spyro's origins and establishing a new universe for him that would potentially be expanded down the line. They chose the latter option, not wanting Spyro to be lost as a character. In response to the dwindling reception of the Spyro games after the original Spyro trilogy, Sierra Entertainment producers, Michael Graham and Christopher Wilson, were faced with the decision to either retire the Spyro character entirely after the release of Spyro: Shadow Legacy or reboot the franchise.
